Narrator is taking the wheel..trying to control it..when Tyler shouts "Let go..Just let go..."
Letting things go is as difficult as it seems easier. Of course letting something go is easy as compared to obtaining it the first time. However "letting go" is not difficult because of emotional reasons, it is more because of the "stigma" attached to the "monkly" behavior of letting things go.
For example, you may resent the person who abuses you day and night, still you want to be with him not because you are attached to him. It is because of the reason that you cannot stand the society without him. Because then you will be seen as "weak" who was kicked out by his abuser. You must have let go...but to your own further "downfall"..
No wonder as soon as the narrator leaves the wheel and "let it go"...he got into an accident..
